Guide To Computer Security
Firewall
Last but not least, we are going to put a firewall on your computer. Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 come with built-in firewalls but they are often criticized as not being entireley secure, so try this one instead. (If you have Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, or 2000, use the old version.) This is probably the MOST important part of securing your computer. This is what blocks any hackers from controlling your computer or making your computer do things on the internet that could get you in trouble. Go here, download ZoneAlarm Free, and then install it.
There is not much configuration that needs to be done after installation. Your best friend is Google and ZoneAlarm Support if you need any help with anything like forwarding ports or defining zones. One thing that needs to be noted, during the first few days several pop-up balloons will appear in your taskbar in the bottom right-hand corner. When a balloon appears that looks like this:
![]() When this shows up, first look and make sure that you recognize that you know what the program is. This would appear if you just tried opening your web-browser. If you recognize the program that is trying to access the internet and trust the program, then click "Remember this setting" and then click "Allow".
Conclusion
This tutorial should help you completely lock-down your computer. Enjoy a securely locked-down computer without the fear of hackers or viruses getting to you or your computer!
